5 tips to survive a professional speed date
How do you survive professional speed dates?
Speed dating? Do you immediately think of a passionate love affair? In this case it is (unfortunately) different. With these 5 tips, you will make sure that every professional speed date comes to a good end.
1. Prepare some questions
“Because of this, the conversation will not come to a standstill.”
A speed date is sometimes tricky because you don't know the people you're talking to. To make sure that the awkwardness goes away quickly, you can prepare a number of questions in advance. Because of this, the conversation will not come to a standstill.
2. Dress up neatly
Even though in this time meetings are mostly online. It is still important to dress up neatly. During a meeting the first impression is really important and when you're dressed sloppy, this impression is usually not the best.
3. Be on time
It is very important to be on time. The people with whom you have a speed date need to make time for you. Make sure you don't waste this time and use all the time you have. If you are late for a speed date, this will not make a good first impression.
4. Ask them for tips & tricks
Since your speed date with professionals, you can certainly use their tips and tricks. They know the field very well and you still have to learn about it. Often they are also very happy when you ask for their help, because professionals like to share their expertise.
5. Stay in touch with your speed dates
Networking is a very important aspect within the communication sector. Without a network you get nowhere. That is why you need to grab every opportunity to expand your network. After your speed date, be sure to add the professionals on LinkedIn. This way you can quickly contact them afterwards for any further questions you may have.
I would like to thank Rani Verschueren and Marie De Clercq for the great speed date we had. Thanks to their tips & tricks I can look for a suitable internship.
